Chapter <br /> SUBCHAPTER II <br /> 10.70 SUBCHAPTER; PURPOSE. <br /> (1) Sections 10.70 through 10.93, inclusive, are hereinafter collectively referred to as "this <br /> subchapter". <br /> (2) The purpose of this subchapter is to regulate signs for all properties within the <br /> jurisdiction of this ordinance and to ensure the public safety, preservation of scenic beauty <br /> and the implementation of the desired overall character of the community and its <br /> constituent zoning districts. <br /> [History: am., Sub. 2 to O.A. 6, 1989-90,pub. 09/21/90.] <br /> 10.71 DEFINITIONS. As used in this subchapter, the following words shall have the <br /> definitions indicated: <br /> (1) Sign shall mean any object, device, display, structure, or part thereof, situated outdoors, <br /> which is used to advertise, identify, display, direct or attract attention to an object, person, <br /> institution, organization, business, product, service, event, or location by any means, <br /> including words, letters, figures, designs, symbols, fixture, colors, illumination, or <br /> projected images. As used herein sign does not include the flag or emblem of any nation, <br /> organization of nations, or other governmental or municipal agencies or units; traffic <br /> control or other public agency signs; community information signs; displays within the <br /> confines of a building; merchandise, pictures or models of products or services <br /> incorporated in a window display; works of art which in no way identify a product or <br /> service; scoreboards located on athletic fields; "no trespassing" and "no hunting" signs; and <br /> signs mounted or painted on commercial vehicles and the same are expressly excepted <br /> from regulation under this subchapter. <br /> (7) _ Back to back sign shall mean signs that are mounted back to back with the sign faces <br /> in opposing directions or on a 'V-shaped' frame with an internal angle of less than 40. 'V- <br /> shaped' frame signs with an internal angle larger than 40 shall be considered side by side <br /> signs. <br /> (20) Ground shall mean the average elevation of the ground upon which the sign supports <br /> are placed, except when the sign supports rest upon a berm or other area elevated above the <br /> surrounding ground. In such cases,the average elevation of the base of such berm or other <br /> area shall be considered as the ground. <br /> (21) Ground sign shall mean a freestanding sign mounted on supports or uprights and <br /> whose bottom edge is less than 8 feet above the ground. <br /> (30) On premise advertising sign shall mean a sign which directs attention to a business, <br /> commodity, service, items, or entertainment, sold, offered or conducted on the same <br /> premises that the sign is located. <br /> (36)Road classification shall refer to the system of classifying roads, according to the <br /> following scheme: <br /> Class A All federal and state highways and designated county highways. <br /> Class B All County highways except those designated as class "A". <br /> Class C All town roads. <br /> Class D Roads within sub-divisions which were recorded prior to the adoption of the <br /> zoning ordinance. <br /> Page 1 <br />
