&Al YAHARA MATERIALS, INC.
6117 C.T.H. "K"/ROUTE 1
WAUNAKEE, WISCONSIN 53597/PHONE 608-849-4162
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
May 3, 1990
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
YAHARA MATERIALS, INC. , 6117 CTH "K", Waunakee, Wisconsin 53597 is requesting
a Conditional Use permit for mineral extraction on the Norslien property
located in the W1 - SW Z Section 2, TTN - RGE, Vermont township, Dane County,
Wisconsin.
The purpose of this request is for obtaining aggregate for the use in the
reconstruction of Highway 78. We request the permit to continue through the
completion of this project.
The area consists of a wooded ridge and no farmland would be removed from
production.
Topsoil and overburden would be stripped from the site and piled separately.
These materials would be used for the final restoration of the site. The area
would be free draining and left in a workmanlike condition. Reclamation and
restoration will conform to applicable rules and regulations of the Dane County
Code of Ordinances, May, 1989.
Access to the site from STH would be by a new drive as indicated on the site
map and utilizing an existing roadway to get to the new quarry. New roadway
would be abandoned and restored at time of quarry reclamation. The site is a
viable source of limestone aggregate and agricultural lime for the surrounding
area. Its access onto STH 78 will negate the use of town roads for hauling
material from the site.
The quarry is located around the side of the hill and at such an elevation
that would make it visually unobtrusive to viewers from the highway. Natural
berms of vegetation will be retained wherever possible to help screen the area.
This site is located a considerable distance from the surrounding neighbors.
The closest being over two thousand feet and with a ridge between them and
the proposed site.
