YAHARA M A T E R I A L S P.O.Box 277 Waunakee,WI 53597-0277 Phone 608-849-4162 Fax 808-849-5062 June 7,2016 Neighbors of the Meinholz Quarry Town of Springfield Re: Renewal of Portable Concrete Batch Plant Conditional Use Permit Dear Neighbors: In July 2010, Yahara Materials, Inc. was granted a conditional use permit ("CUP") to site a portable concrete batch plant located at the Meinholz Quarry. That current CUP will expire on November 30, 2016. I am writing this letter to inform our neighbors that Yahara Materials has applied for a ten year renewal of the CUP. To provide a brief history, Yahara Materials originally obtained a CUP for a portable concrete batch plant at the Meinholz Quarry in April 2008 for the construction of Mineral Point Road. That CUP was issued with the understanding it would serve as a trial period to establish whether there would be any conflicts with the neighborhood and surrounding area. Since Yahara Materials did not receive any reports about the concrete batch plant creating any conflicts during that period,a long-term CUP was applied for and obtained in July 2010. Construction served by the current CUP has included projects on Park Street,the Beltline,and Verona Road. All concrete batch plant CUPs issued at the Meinholz Quarry have been for portable, not permanent, plants. When projects are complete, the concrete batch plants are dismantled and removed from the Meinholz Quarry. The current application for a ten year renewal of the CUP is to again request the siting of a portable concrete batch plant. This will give Yahara Materials the ability to site a concrete batch plant as projects require. The application for the portable concrete batch plant CUP will be presented at the Springfield Town Plan Commission meeting on July 11, 2016 and at the Dane County ZLR meeting on August 23,2016.
