.r r•qv
C Oc G o vt/
Gentlemen:
On behalf of the adjacent property owners Norman. Thomas
Carpenter and Janet M. Carpenter, we desire to herewith formally file
an objection to the rezoning of the property, adjacent to their existing
quarry. We are advised that the request is to zone the adjacent property
as residential .
As each of you are well aware, the Carpenter property is
and has been an actively zoned mineral extraction site for the past
approximate 35 years. An enormous quantity of remaining minerals, stone
and sand exist in unextracted form. It is estimated that said quarrying
operation will continue in the immediate future for an additional minimum
of 20 years before the extraction site would be fully depleted.
We strongly feel that any zoning change at this time would
be extremely detrimental to all parties concerned. Because of the im-
mediate proximity of the property in question to the Carpenter quarry,
an approval for the construction of a contingent residence would cause
a severe hardship for all interested persons. The very nature of the
quarrying operation itself makes it detrimental to be located immediately
adjacent to a proposed dwelling. To allow a rezoning change will undoubtedly
present in the future many problems to you as members of the Town Board,
which you can now avoid by refusing said permit. It is our desire to
alleviate these problems before they may arise by entering our objection
at this time.
The economic livelihood of the Carpenters may well depend
in the future on the continued use of this quarry. Accordingly we must
oppose zoning changes which would result in an incompatible use such as
