July 22$ 1988
Agriculture, Environment and Land Records Committee
Room 116, City County Building
Madison, WI.53709
RE: C.U.P. for Town of Burke Town Hall
Committee Members:
This letter is from a concerned citizen and taxpayer in the
Town of Burke. I am quite concerned about the proposed
location on Hoepker Road for the site of a new Town Hall.
Town officials argue that building of a new Town Hall at
the proposed site is not a first step toward development
in this area as inferred by the City of Madison.
I have seen surveyors working in the area bordering Hwy. 151,
Cty. Hwy. C., and Hoepker Roadi, I have also seen stakes
positioned in this area. If no further development is
anticipated, why is this area being surveyed and staked?
I fear we will have the same environment as we now have
with our Town Hall sitting in the City of Sun Prairie
or City of Madison. Sun Prairie officials have already
voiced interest in the area stating that the land would
be ideal to hook up to their sewerage treatment plant.
I have nothing against development, a green belt, etc.
To put the Town Hall in the middle of this controversial
area seems premature. The town officials know about the
surveying and interested parties in purchasing certain parcels
but have chose to keep this quiet to get what they want.
At the annual town meeting, several arguments against this
site were voiced because of the 2 cities moving closer.
These opinions were ignored in choosing the site anyway.
I question if the best interests of the township are being
considered when the town officials choose to ignore or keep
the facts quiet.
Respectfully;
A Concerned Taxpayer in the Town of Burke
,)UL 251988
RECEIVED
ZONING DIV.
