9F
it s 17 !' Dane County Land & Water Resources Department
a '' Administration • Land Conservation • Office of Lakes&Watersheds• Parks • Water Resource Engineering
• ? Kevin F.Connors,Director
,scoNe:
July 11, 2016
Dane County Planning and Development
Room 116
City-County Building .
Madison, WI 53703
Floodplain Development Permit DCPFLO-2016-00008
Weisensel Pedestrian/Snowmobile Bridge
Town of Sun Prairie, Section 33
The proposed snowmobile and pedestrian bridge will cross an unnamed tributary of the Koshkonong
Creek in McCarthy County Park on parcels 0811-331-8000-5 and 0811-331-8690-1. The plan conforms
to Dane County Code of Ordinance, Chapter 17, Floodplain Regulations.
The lowest chord of the new bridge will be at approximately 900'. An equivalent volume of soil,4 cubic
yards, will be removed from the floodplain zone as compensatory fill for the volume of the structure of
the bridge. The decking of the structure measures 50' by 12' by 1.5"thick, equaling 75 cubic feet which
gives approximately 2.78 cubic yards. The metal I-beams measure 4"wide by 14"tall and the metal is
0.5"thick, equaling 3.82 cubic feet. There are (7)I-beams total, adding up to.26.74 cubic feet, which is
approximately 0.99 cubic yards. Adding together the totals for the decking and the I-beams, we reached a
total of 3.78 cubic yards and rounded to 4 cubic yards to be on the safe side. We expect no adverse
impact to the regional floodplain.
The following conditions were considered in the design:
• This development shall not obstruct flow, defined as development which blocks the conveyance
of floodwaters by itself or with other development, causing any increase in the regional flood
height; or cause any increase in the regional flood height due to floodplain storage area lost.
• Bridge shall be designed and constructed to have a low flood damage potential.
• Adequate flood proofing measures shall be provided to the flood protection elevation.
The attached map provides a site location of the bridge, including contour elevations. Dane County
Water Resource Engineering has reviewed this plan and are providing their approval.
40,incerely
VP/ '
J- emy Balousek
Division Manager
Water Resource Engineering Division
Lyman F.Anderson Agriculture&Conservation Center
5201 Fen Oak Drive,Room 208,Madison,Wisconsin 53718-PH:608/224-3730,FAX:608/224-3745
www.countyofdane.com/lwrd
