Had any question arisen regarding the raising of <br /> livestock on the property, petitioners would have investigated <br /> further at the time of purchase. However, because the previous <br /> owner had owned livestock and the acreage was over 5 acres as they <br /> understood it to be, petitioners had a reasonable basis for the <br /> initial purchase of the livestock. If additional contiguous <br /> acreage were available, petitioners would have purchased such <br /> additional acreage in order to satisfy the Dane County Zoning <br /> Ordinance. However, this is impossible. <br /> The property is bound on two sides by county roads <br /> (Ridge Road and West Jargo Road) so that expansion in those two <br /> directions is impossible. Another side of petitioners ' property is <br /> bound by property owned by the Town of Cottage Grove. Petitioners <br /> inquired as to purchasing part of this property in order to <br /> acquire sufficient acreage to raise livestock and were informed in <br /> a letter dated December 20 , 1984 , from the town of Cottage Grove <br /> Chairman, Eugene Skaar, that the Planning Committee of the Town of <br /> Cottage Grove would not be willing to sell this land to them. The <br /> other side of petitioners ' property is bounded by property owned <br /> by Shawn Olsen, who owns a total of 7 acres . Petitioners have <br /> likewise inquired of Mr. Olsen regarding the purchase of <br /> additional acreage, and Mr . Olsen has advised that he is unwilling <br /> to sell a portion of his property. <br /> Consequently, petitioners are unable to increase their <br /> acreage. They have attempted in good faith to comply with the <br /> -3- <br />
