•
•
••
TOWN OF COTTAGE GROVE
COTTAGE GROVE, WISCONSIN 53527
July 2, 1986
Wisconsin Department of Transportation
Marvin J. Schaeffer, Administrator
Highway Transportation Service
4802 Sheboygan Avenue
r• dison, Wisconsin 53707
Dear Mr. Schaeffer;
The Town of Cottage Grove has two pending Dane County Zone requests which
involve ingLess and egress from state and county highways. Both of these requests
are off closed access highways.
Formal requests to District 1 Highway Division have been rude and as far as
the town can ascertain these requests have been or being denied.
The first request was on Highway N at I-94 on the parcel south and east of
that intersection. The parcel is ideal for use as a truck transfer freight
terminal. The present field drive could be moved north to a higher location and
be a safer drive than the present field drive or the recommended inlet off Gaston
Road. Putting that access closer to I-94 would make good planning because of the
design of that intersection routing trucks to Gaston Road would only slow down
traffic movement for a greater distance.
The second request has to do with 12 & 18 east of County Highway AB.
The Swensoth farm was cut into when the first relocation of Highway 12 & 18
took place sorre years ago. They were at that time granted field access to cross
the highway with farm machines. A permit has been granted for the north parcel
of this split to conduct agricultural and eammercial business use along with the
farm use.
The south parcel driveway is used for agriculture. Now the son and family of
Olof and Elinore Swenson wish to build on the east hill overlooking the property.
This residence should use the field access. District 1 has advised that a drive
be constructed to come out on AB. This puts the cost resident construction out of
the question. The road would cost more then the home. The land to AB has changed
to a swam, condition because of the drainage (underground and surface) pattern
changes brought on by the relocated 12 & 13 highway. The present farm house on
the Swenson farm cannot be improved because of the sanitary sewage field drainage
problems_caused by the changed drainage pattern. These two zone changes deserve
sore special consideration. As chairman of the Town of Cottage Grove I make
