••
•
Sue
Magnuson
State Representative .
j
48th Assembly District
VICE-CHAIR
Committee on Commerce&Consumer Affairs
MEMBER:
Committee on Economic Development
Committee on Environmental Resources
July 10, 1986 Committee on Education
Mr. Marvin Schaeffer
Administrator, Highway Transportation Service
4802 Sheboygan Avenue
Madison, WI 53707
Dear Mr. Schaeffer:
The Town of Cottage Grove has two requests regarding state and
county highways which have come to the Department of Transportation
in recent months. One request is from Mr. Irving Smith regarding
Highway N, the other is from Olof and Elinore Swenson regarding
Highway 12 & 18.
Both requests have been reasonable and well thought out. Both
were also denied based on pre-established safety guidelines.
It appears that little, if any, consideration has been given to
the fact that both parcels in question already have access roads
which would be considered "unsafe" if present guidelines were
applied. Both owners would give up their current access roads
and replace them with more functional roads with equally safe
qualities as the existing ones.
It further concerns me that no consideration has been given to
the fact that both owners are in this situation because their
land was originally taken by the state to build the highways to
which they now want improved access. This goes beyond the
ironic to a disregard for the rights of the individuals involved.
I request that you make every attempt to meet with the aggrieved
parties and the Town of Cottage Grove officials to arrive at a
satisfactory solution.
Sincerely,
SUE R.
