The well does not appear to meet the
criteria of Wisconsin Administrative Code chNR112 in terms of
being a potable source of water. Water from the well is not
currently being used for drinking by the occupants of the dwelling.
I would recommend that the owner contact Patrick McCutcheon at
the Southern District office of the Department of Natural Resources ,
phone #275-3299, for an inspection. Mr. McCutcheon would
explain the requirements for bringing the well into compliance
with the well code .
There is no information in our file regarding the exact age,
size, construction or location of the components of the private
sewage system. The septic tank and seepage pit portion of the
system were found off the northwest side of the house . The septic
tank does not have an approved manhole or manhole cover. At the
exact time of my inspection, there were several boards over the
manhole opening to the septic tank. This is a potentially
hazardous situation.
Evidence in the area of this premises would indicate that
there is creviced bedrock within one to three feet of the ground
surface. Current State Statutes define any private sewage system
as failing if the bottom of the soil absorption area (e.g . , seepage
pit) is within three feet of bedrock.
