RAPP, COMMISSIONER
2302 Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, Wisconsin 53713
phone: 266-4261
EP\
TO: Dane County Zoning Committee
FROM: John A. Norwell , P. E.
4A1116
Assistant Commissioner
DATE: May 14, 1984
SUBJECT: Additional comment on Petition #3211
We received a phone call relative to a possible sight distance problem for a
proposed driveway that is intended to serve two lots created by a court order.
We investigated the sight distance for purposes of determining the validity
of the complaint.
The minimum suggested stopping sight distance for a 50 m.p.h. speed zone is
approximately 350 feet. Our investigation of the sight distances found the
following stopping sight distances at the below locations:
Direction of travel Location Stopping sight distance
North 33 feet south of.the 303 feet
northerly propoerty line
South 33 feet south of the 265 feet
northerly property line
North 83 feet south of the 328 feet
northerly property line
South 83 feet south of the
northerly property line 1 ,000+ feet
Our survey crew indicated 83 feet south of the northerly property line was the
best possible location for the driveway, but this location would still not meet
the minimum stopping sight distance. Based on our findings, we would not
recommend the creation of a drive entrance for this land subdivision.
RECENED
cc: Freya Grand, 2644 C.T.H. "E", Mt.
