OF COUNSEL
PETER B.RITZ MICHAEL S.JACOBS
JONATHAN BECKER May 1, 1984
Members of the County Board
City-County Building
210 Monona Avenue
Madison, WI 53709
Re: Rezoning Petition No. 3211
Petitioner: Shirley Thompson
Dear County Supervisors:
Stanley and Freya Grand request you to deny Petition
No. 3211, by which Shirley Thompson seeks to rezone approx-
imately eight acres of land in the Town of Blue Mounds from
A-1 to RH-1. Mr. and Mrs. Grand own the property adjoining
the land in question. Their residence is located very near
the boundary. They would, therefore, be significantly
affected by the change.
There has been a good deal of misinformation dissem-
inated concerning the need for the rezoning. The process by
which it has been brought before you is irregular. There
is also a serious question as to whether the division of the
property is lawful. However, despite these problems, there
has been a rush to have the rezoning approved. We hope
that, in order to avoid time consuming and expensive liti-
gation, you will deny the petition.
No Town Board Recommendation
One of the unusual aspects of this petition is that it
comes to you without a recommendation from the Blue Mounds
Town Board. It is not that the Town Board has declined, or
is unwilling, to act. It is prepared to have a hearing and
submit a recommendation. However, for some reason, the
Agriculture, Environment and Zoning Committee decided to
take action before receiving the recommendation. As a
matter of sound public policy, consistent practice, and
good county-town relations, you should let the Town Board
first consider the petition.
