July 10, 1984
Agriculture, Environment & Land Records
Committee
Dane County Zoning Department
City-County Building
Madison, WI 53709
Dear Committee:
The enclosed photographs, taken during June and July of 1984,
provide information on the impact that residential platting as requested
in petition #3278 will have on adjacent farmland and the Cross Plains
Unit of the Ice Age State Park.
The acreage concerned is presently being used as farmland and wood-
land as it has been for many years. It drains through farmland which
would be affected adversely by a high density residential development.
Also, it lies across from a State Park. Much effort has gone into main-
taining a desirable'visual corridor for this park. All things considered
granting this request hardly seems consistent with the Committee's goal
of preserving farmland in Dane County.
Should the committee deem it desirable to rezone this property,
the following conditions are proposed:
(1) On sites which drain through the agricultural land of others,
each lot should consist-of at least' 5 acres.
(2) Improvements should be constructed only where they are screened
from view of the Ice Age Park by existing landforms and vegetation.
Development of the property within these guidelines would help minimize
the economic and aesthetic impact on the surrounding area.
Respectfully yo rs,
/Jerry Kermi8le
Dorothea Kermicle
cc: Walter Haack, Chairman
Town of Cross Plains
