DATE: September 27, 1987
TO: Town of Verona Planning Commission & Dane County Zoning Committee
I '
FROM: Wendlewood Subdivision Residents,
Town of Verona
It is our intention to oppose and take a stand against the zoning petition
# 4091 submitted by Fred Bachmann, 4656 Highway TT, Sun Prairie. A large
number of residents appeared at the planning commission meeting held
September 24, 1987, at the Town Hall.
The arrogance of the petitioner, Mr. Bachmann, was plain as day. He never
showed up to discuss the matter. As a matter of fact, the two individuals
representing the surveying firm who did appear acknowledged the fact that
neither one of them had even seen the property in question. This clearly
establishes their motivation--that zoning changes of this type tend to
provide windfall gains for the owner while adjacent landowners suffer
negatively--especially financially.
It is the general sentiment and consensus of the residents that support exists
for a possible variance in allowing the petitioner to subdivide into two lots
rather than the three proposed trisections.
Granting this zoning change will alter the character of the neighborhood
permanently. It is a fact that the original Wendtwood plot contained one lot
which is now being considered to be subdivided into three. It is also a fact
that most present neighborhood lots contain acreage 3/4 on up. Our land and
property values will decline. The new homes would have to be much smaller to
fit on the lots.
This action, if granted, will foster further hodgepodge land use and will have
a negative impact on the quality of life of our neighborhood. Other concerns
we have are population density, automobile traffic, noise, air quality,
drainage, and public health and safety.
