AP
Proposed use of the property to be re-zoned.
Property will be re-zoned for three specific reasons:
A). A pottery workshop, kiln and kiln shed.
A chicken coop will be used as the workshop and will provide
space for all aspects of production pottery; an area for clay mixing
and storage area for prepared clay, a throwing and decorating area
and sufficient storage for greenware (i.e. unfired pottery) . The kiln
shed will provide adequate shelter for a large wood-burning kiln and
space to store slab wood used as fuel.
B). The existing barn will be used for the storage and sales of
apples and pottery.
C) . A gallery that will operate from an existing portion of the
residence.
A time schedule for development.
Developement will take approximately one year, proposed in this order:
If we are able to begin work by June, the kiln shed and wood stor-
age shed will first be constructed and wood stored for proper drying.
We wil then develope an area for processing our clay and glaze materials.
Clay will be mixed and stored. Next, our throwing area, or workshop,
will be renovated. Windows are to be replaced, walls insolated and dry
racks built.
If time permits, we hope to dig our foundation for the kiln and
set the footings before winter frost. The chimney may also be built at
this time.
Our winter months will be well occupied with the making of pots for
two spring firings.
As frost breaks and weather permits, kiln construction shall begin
and upon its completion, fired. The firing is a process that consumes
three days of constant attention (and work! ) and five cords of wood.
Smoke discharge varies from firing to firing in respect to atmosric
conditions and firing cycle. If fired properly in ideal conditions,
smoke should be minimal. We hope to fire approximately six time a year.
A description of land uses within 300 feet of the
property proposed to be re-zoned.
North: Woodland owned by Phil Vasby.
East: 272 feet; hay field owned by Kent Karberg. 28 feet; hay field
owned by Robert H.
