The utility contractor uses this material for pipe bedding,
communication and electric power wire burying and for sanitary
and storm sewer and watermain pipe laying. The state, federal
and local transportation agencies also require sand fill whenever
any utility crosses a public highway or walkway. The excavated
trench material must be removed and pit-run gravel and sand
must be put in the trench, compacted in not more than 12" lifts
and compacted to a density of 95% by weight or greater.
In order to achieve this compacted density the most common
and less expensive material used in all these construction areas
is sand. Sand has the ability to with stand great amounts of
pressure in pounds per square inch and can with stand great
amounts of water which when compacted properly and the correct
amount of water mixed with it compaction results of up to
100% are achieved.
Another important use of sand is is the agricultural area.
Farmers have constructed free stall barns, where each cow in a
herd has its own stall. These stalls are filled with sand
which are important to the cow and also the herdsman. It
provides a ciry, and clean place for the cows to lie down, the
farmers have cleaner cows with less disease and less work in
caring for their animals. They also realize a greater increase
in milk and butter fat production.
We the undersigned contractors, municipal governments and
farmers have a need for fill sand and we ask that you approve
this application for mineral extraction as soon as possible.
