If you could pass this along to the appropriate
person, I would appreciated it.
We have looked at the plans for the garage addition for the above property as it relates to the septic system.
The new structure does not add any wastewater flow to the property and the system is appears to be in code
compliant soils as per the previous approval of the system. The new construction may infringe slightly on the
tanks (within 2—3 inches of the setback requirement). I have advised the owner that the construction would
make the septic system technically non-compliant but that he would be able to apply to the State for a
variance for such a slight difference. There is no guarantee that the state will approve such a variance but
they have done so in other cases. If they do not approve the variance request, the tank could be moved or
replaced. I also explained that the construction will be near enough to the tanks, piping, and distribution area
that the owner should ensure that any necessary excavations are done so as to not disturb the septic system.
Any questions or concerns, please let me know.
John
John S Hausbeck MS RS f Environmental Health Services Supervisor I jhausbeck @publichealthmdc.com
Public Health Madison & Dane County I 2300 S Park St, Rm 2010, Madison, WI 53713
Phone: (608) 243-0331 I Fax: (608) 242-6435 I Facebook_ Twitter
Healthy People.
