bp
0 BP Pleasant Springs Travel Plaza
2763 County Road N, Cottage Grove, WI.53527
Phone: 608-877-0525 Fax: 608-877-0474
5/2/18
Good Morning Roger,
This letter is an effort to address all of your concerns regarding our signage. I will address
each one on an individual basis.
• The main pylon exceeds the allowed amount of 500 square feet. We have removed
the Chester's sign from the bottom and reduced the size of the message center from
10 by 24 ft. to10 by 18 ft. This should get us under the 500 foot maximum
• Only one pylon sign is permitted and it is located in the vision triangle. We have
moved the price sign out of the vision triangle as shown on the site plans that I have
attached. As far as the additional pylon sign goes we are required by the state to
display all prices of fuel that are available for resale. We also need to display the
branded fuel name and the restaurants that are on site. It would be impossible to
make this happen in 96 square feet. We are really not asking for anything more than
our direct competition already has
• The Cat Scale sign is something that is required at all Cat Scale locations. The draw
to a Cat Scale is they are certified and any fines that may come from overweight loads
are paid from Cat directly. This also makes for safer highways by eliminating
overweight semi trucks. We discussed that the sign be changed to reflect the Cat
logo and a small Enter and Exit copy. This has been done in other municipalities to
approve the sign as a directional sign. A copy has been included in your packet. Our
direct competition also has a Cat scale sign with no restrictions.
• There are several auxiliary signs on the property. We have addressed the several
auxiliary signs reference by eliminating all but the Auto Entrance and the Truck
Entrance by the main driveways and 3 directional signs for Arby's. Signs are 1.5
square feet each, times five is 15 square foot total, not including the Cat scale sign.
Dane county allows 50 square feet.
• Two wall signs are permitted per building. There has to be a section in the Dane
county sign code that allows for buildings with multiple businesses. We have not
requested a sign for Hunt Brothers Pizza in an effort to keep the signage to a
minimum. We are currently at 174 square feet of building signage and Dane county
allows 200 square feet.
All of this signage was included on the original plans and I was under the impression that it
was already approved with the rest of the work and all we had to do was apply for the
permits. This is a substantial investment for our company and we are trying our best to be
successful. Thank you again for continued help with our project.
Ted Gement
