Bartlett, Russell
From: Lane, Roger
Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 6:56 PM
To: Bartlett, Russell; Schroeckenthaler, Scott
Cc: Schutte, Kristine; Violante, Todd
Subject: Billboard signs
Russ & Scott,
I have reviewed the sign ordinances and Russ is correct on the interpretation of copy area on Billboard signs. Due to
billboard signs being a off-premise sign, one has to look a all faces of the sign to count the cumulative copy area of the
sign. If there are two 150 sq.ft. back-to-back signs, the copy area would be the maximum permitted, 300 sq.ft.
With that said, the Zoning Division does have a track record of allowing only one sign face to count in the copy area of
back-to-back billboard signs. To avoid costly legal actions and determining how far back we should go to enforce the
correct interpretation, I have decided to allow billboards that were issued permits prior to this date, to be constructed as
shown of the permits (one side counting as copy area).
Russ- I would like for you to remove the stop work orders on permit#'s 2008-0287, 2008-0288, and 2008-0100.
Scott- Permit#'s 2008-0200 and 2008-0201 will be allowed to be constructed as shown on the permits.
Any future billboard permits as of this date will need to comply with the copy area counts all sign faces whether or not they
are back-to-back.
If you have any questions while I am gone, please talk to Todd or Kris on this matter.
Roger
