(55) Sanitary Landfill: Sanitary landfill is a type of land disposal operation involving
<br /> the disposal of solid waste on land.
<br /> (56) Setback: The minimum horizontal distance from the front line or from the center of
<br /> the highway, measured parallel to the highway or front lot line, to the front of the
<br /> building.
<br /> (57) Sign: A sign is an emblem, name, identification, description or illustration which is
<br /> affixed to or appears directly or indirectly upon a building, structure or piece of
<br /> land and which directs attention to an object, product, place activity, person, insti-
<br /> tution, organization or business. Neither official court or public notices, official
<br /> highway markers, traffic direction and control signs, nor the flag, emblem or insignia
<br /> of a nation, political unit, school or religious group shall be considered a sign
<br /> under this ordinance.
<br /> (58) Sign (Advertising, Billboard or Posterboard) : A sign which directs attention to a com-
<br /> modity, service or entertainment not exclusively related to a specific location or pre-
<br /> mises where such a sign is located or to which it is affixed.
<br /> (59) Sign (Directory) : A sign which directs attention to a business, service or entertain-
<br /> ment at a specific location or premises other than the premises or location at which
<br /> the sign is located.
<br /> (60) Sign (On Premise) : A sign which indicates the name of the establishment where the sign
<br /> is located or to which it is affixed and which also may direct attention to a product
<br /> not exclusively related the premises where such sign is located or to which it is affixes
<br /> but sold or offered upon such premises.
<br /> (61) Sign (Home Occupation) : A sign which directs attention to a home occupation permitted
<br /> on the premises to which the sign is affixed.
<br /> (62) Sign (Real Estate) : A sign which directs attention to real estate which is for sale,
<br /> lease, rent or trade.
<br /> (63) Sign (Development) : A sign which directs attention to a future building or to a build-
<br /> ing under construction.
<br /> (64) Sign (Temporary) : A sign which directs attention to an event to be held at a specific
<br /> time and place. During election campaigns, posters, or signs on behalf of candidates
<br /> for public offices or on behalf of a politicial belief shall also be considered as
<br /> temporary signs.
<br /> (65) Sign (Crop Demonstration) : A sign used.to designate a variety, brand or other indenti-
<br /> fication of a field crop, fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide being grown or used at a
<br /> specific location.
<br /> (66) Slaughter House: Any building or premises used commercially for the killing or
<br /> dressing of cattle, sheep, swine, goats or horses, for human consumption and the
<br /> storage, freezing and curing of meat and the preparation of meat products.
<br /> (67) Solid Waste: Solid waste means garbage, refuse and all other discarded or salvageable
<br /> solid materials, including solid waste materials resulting from industrial, commercial,
<br /> operations, and from domestic use and public service activities, but does not include
<br /> solids or dissolved material in waste water effluents or other common water pollutants.
<br /> (68) Solid Waste Disposal Operation: A solid waste disposal operation is the operation of
<br /> maintenance of a solid waste disposal site or facility, for the collection, storage,
<br /> utilization, processing, or final disposal of solid waste, including, but not limited
<br /> I/ to, land disposal, incinerator, transfer, air curtain destruction, composting reduction,
<br /> shredding, compression, processing, and salvage. In house re-use of the imperfect
<br /> finished products to make a merchantable finished product is not a solid waste dis-
<br /> posal operation. -
<br /> (69) Story: The vertical distance of a building included between the surface of any floor
<br /> and the floor next above it, or if there be no floor above it, then the space between
<br /> such floor and the ceiling, provided that a basement shall not be considered a story.
<br /> (70) Story, Half: A story under a gable, hip or mansard roof, the wall plates of which on
<br /> at least two sides are not more than two feet above the floor of such story.
<br /> (71) Street: A public or private thoroughfare which affords primary means of access to
<br /> abutting property is a street to that property for the purposes of this ordinance, ex-
<br /> cept driveways to buildings.
