10 -40; 10.41; 10.42 <br />10.40 SIGNS <br />(1) Purpose: The purpose of this section is to provide the minimum regulations, pro- <br />visions and requirements to insure the public safety, general welfare and preserve <br />the scenic beauty by regulating and controlling the installation of signs and other <br />advertising structures. <br />10.111 `ADVERTISING, BILLBOARDS AND POSTERBOARD SIGNS <br />(1) Size of signs <br />(a) Sign area shall not exceed 300 square feet. Trim area shall not exceed 25% <br />of sign area. <br />(2) Location of signs <br />(a) Signs may be placed at the right -of -way line of any class A or B highway <br />except that signs shall not be permitted between the points of tangency on <br />a curve to the right of any highway. <br />(b) Signs shall not be permitted within 300 feet of any intersection. The <br />beginning of a curve on a highway interchange ramp or the beginning of a <br />curved access to an intersection shall be considered as the intersection for <br />the purpose of sign location. <br />(3) Distance between signs <br />(a) One sign face shall be permitted at any location and the distance between <br />signs shall be 500 feet. <br />(b) Back to back signs shall be permitted except that each sign face shall <br />require a separate permit. <br />(4) Height of sign <br />(a) Signs shall not exceed 35 feet in height above the mean centerline grade <br />of the adjacent highway. <br />(5) Permitted zoning districts <br />(a) C -1 Commercial.and Light Manufacturing District <br />(b) C -2 Commercial and Light Manufacturing District <br />(c) M -1 Industrial District <br />10.42 DIRECTORY SIGNS <br />(1) Size of signs <br />(a) Sign area shall not exceed 96 square feet. Trim area shall not exceed 20% <br />of the sign area. <br />(b) Not more than 50% of the sign area shall be devoted to advertising a pro- <br />duct or service not exclusively available at the premises or location which <br />the sign directs attention to. <br />(2) Location of signs <br />(a) Signs may be placed at the right -of -way line of any class A, B or C highway <br />except that signs shall not be permitted between the points of tangency on <br />a curve to the right of any highway. <br />- 52 - <br />
