STATE OF WISCONSIN DANE COUNTY <br />POTENTIAL MINERAL EXTRACTION <br />PROJECT CREATING HEALTH AND <br />SAFETY HAZARDS AND ADVERSELY <br />EFFECTING PROPERTY VALUES <br />PETITION TO DANE COUNTY <br />ZONING COP^MISSION, <br />TOWNSHIP OF SUN .PRAIRIE, <br />AND DEVELOPER DON SIMON <br />The under -signed citizens of Drover's Woods in the Township <br />of Sun Prairie, Dane County, Wisconsin hereby respectively Petition <br />the Dane County Zoning Commission, the Town Board of the Township of <br />Sun Prairie, and Developer Don Simon to intervene in the following <br />dangerous and harmful situation: <br />1. Madison Sand and Gravel Company in 1980 bought ap- <br />proximately twenty-four acres of property in the Township of Sun <br />Prairie south of Highway 19 and just east of Twin Lase Road. The <br />property in question abuts a residential area known as Drover's Woods, <br />which contains fourty-four houses and over a hundred residents. The <br />property purchased by Madison Sand and Gravel Company had previously <br />been an operating sand pit but has not been actively used as a sand <br />pit since sometime in the 1960's. <br />2. The sand pit had been abandoned prior to the beginning <br />of construction of any residential homes in Drover's Woods. <br />3. Under the zoning ordinances of Dane County, the exist- <br />ing sand pit was given a nonconforming use at the time that the <br />county -wide zoning ordinance became effective in the 19601s. <br />4. Activation of the dormant sand pit by Madison Sand and <br />Gravel Company would create the following specific adverse situations <br />for the residents of Drover's Woods: <br />
