nom..
copies of these pages on which I have marked and/or annotated
inconsistant Policies/Objectives; two inconsistancies have
particular relevance in considering ZNR action on Petition 7409 .
Because the proposed driveway is of prime concern to
adjoining farmland owners, please specifically note that
driveways are not "permitted to cross agricultural land to reach
proposed non-farm development" .
This unique land area provides a richly diversified wildlife
habitat. The annotation on enclosed Town Land Use Plan (see
Page 3, Objective #11 ) barely begins to describe the beauty
and bounty of this land. For wall_.ove.r._a_-centu ..y*this land
had been treasuid. Its unique geological value is confirmed
by the presence of the Ice Age Trail, and its special ecological
character is reconfirmed each year by ever-increasing numbers
of hikers, birdwatchers, photographers, wild-food gatherers,
wild plant lovers, pic)fnickers, hunters, anglers, snowmobilers,
ATV riders, and horseback riders .
Granting approval of Petition 7409 is simply NOT compatible
with Dane County/Town of Roxbury commitment to protection for
unique historical, environmental, and wildlife habitat areas.
CONCLUSION - Your careful consideration of all factors -- legal,
technical, and public costs; impact on a unique and irreplacable
geological/ecological land area immediately adjoining the Ice
Age Trail; procedural irregularities/inconsistancies; and impact
on nearby farm owners-operators -- will be deeply appreciated,
especially by adjacent landowners, most of whom have expressed
strong objections to Petition 7409 . As you prepare your staff
report, I strongly urge you to consider recommending that the
ZNR take appropriate action to delay Petition 7409 until land
use inconsistancies are resolved, or, preferrably, deny the
Petition as a clear demonstration of Dane County commitment
to far-seeing land use policies, objectives, and procedures.
Surely we can achieve a balance between honoring our heritage
from the past, meeting our needs in the present, and ensuring
that future generations have the opportunity for doing the same.
Respectfully,
John L. Brereton
Enclosed for your convenience:
Copies of Trustee' s Deeds ( 2 )
Copies of Roxbury Land Use Plan - pp. 3-4
Copies of Roxbury Land Use Plan - Maps (3 )
cc: file
f ' . °1 - / t' /` r ,;:/ ` , Y
f
/ JJ 7
I' fir° C'f'1T
Ue `6T,2
• J
