The
new site is owned by the City, but is currently leased by the Sun Prairie Water and Light
Commission, which uses it now, and will continue to use it as a"clean fill disposal area." The
recycling center will use 2 acres of the 3.5 acre site for"a drop off area for yard waste, discarded
appliances and scrap, used automotive tires, waste automotive oil and batteries and...residential
fluorescent light tubes."
The site is bordered by Sheehan Park(Corn Festival site), a railroad track, and
Hellenbrand Landscaping ;there are"a few residences...approximately 700 feet away." The site
will be staffed by an attendant and will be open to residents of the City of Sun Prairie on Monday,
Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, with maintenance operations only on other weekdays. There
will be at least 3 small buildings on the site, and the recycle area will be fenced and screened with
shrubs and trees. Access would be from Bird Street through the existing paved parking lot.
Note: The Southerly portion of the site is shown on the WDNR Wetlands Inventory Map as ElK
--Persistent emergent wet meadow,Palustrine wet soil. There is an intermittent stream flowing
Sly to the Koshkonong Creek within 100+-feet of the W PL of the CUP area.
Site Plan and copy of Wetlands map in file
REGIONAL PLANNING
CUP 1508. This proposed City of Sun Prairie recycling center is within the Sun Prairie urban
service area, and across the street from the existing recycling center.
This is an area planned for industrial use, with city park to the west and north. Pending further
information at the public hearing, this use appears reasonably compatible.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (septic, etc.)
DANE COUNTY HIGHWAY
OTHER
