COMPOSITE REPORT - Page 2 APPLICATION NO.
STAFF COMMENTS
ZONING REVIEW
CUP 1509 Obert Ofsthun(Yahara Materials, Inc., agent), Cottage Grove 33
Conditional Use Permit for a Mineral Extraction Site
50 acre site bounded by CTH N on W and new USH 12&18 on the S would be used for USH 12
& 18 project, with reclamation to be completed in 1999. Hours of operation would be 6AM-
6PM,M-F (occasional Saturday.) Neighbors will be notified of blasting by phone if they so
request.
Note: The extreme SE corner of the CUP site is located within 300' of an intermittent stream
tributary to Little Door Creek.
Reclamation Plan available.
REGIONAL PLANNING
CUP 1509. This proposed mineral extraction site is associated with the USH 12& 18
reconstruction project.Pending further information at the public hearing, this use appears
reasonably compatible for the highway construction period with conditions similar to the existing
mineral extraction site to the west of CTH N,which was recently approved.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (septic, etc.)
CUP 1509. Quarry operations do not typically impact the groundwater. Studies have shown that
dust particles created by associated activities do not pose a public health risk. Consideration
should be given to the provisions for reducing dust from traffic at the site. If vehicle fuel is stored
on site, provisions should be made to contain any leaks or spills that might occur.
DANE COUNTY HIGHWAY,
C.U.P. 1509. CTH "N" is a controlled access highway. A change of use permit with
improvements to the access may be required.
OTHER
