Town of Blooming Grove Page 2
Plan Commission
December-1.8, 1998
Jam. 4 , I99S
heavy truck traffic on Town roads and the potential of the operation to lower property values
and to reduce the overall enjoyment of one's home and neighborhood.
Possible environmental impacts are also of concern. These include the potential
effects on the overall hydrology of the watershed and adjacent wetlands and natural springs;
storm water discharge, pollutants from the concrete batch plant and associated vehicles and
operation—not to mention the impact of the potential loss of one of Dane County's largest and
most impressive glacial drumlins and any associated Native American relics and mounds.
Please refer to the attached preliminary environmental review by Mead & Hunt, Inc.
The Town has not yet taken a position on whether the gravel mining should be
permitted. But, we ask that the mineral extraction operation and batch plant not be allowed to
begin operations without stringent and appropriate conditions—if it is allowed to begin at all.
Also, we ask that the Town be permitted to continue its review process and play a role in
establishing any necessary conditions.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully submitted,
Town of Blooming Grove Plan Commission
Chair Steve Glass Commissioner Carol Loomis
Co issioner Louise Foster / •mmission:.ifle Siggelkow
Commissi r Larry La
Attachment: 12-9-98 Report from Mead & Hunt
c: Town Board
Wade Cattell
Tim Astfalk, Mead & Hunt, Inc.
Chris Hughes, Stafford, Rosenbaum, et al.
