The foundation for the median shall be pre- <br /> pared by excavating to the lines, grade and cross section shown on the plats and re- i <br /> quired for placing the concrete masonry. Any soft or unsuitable material en:ountered i <br /> shall be removed and replaced with suitable material and the foundation thoroughly <br /> compacted and finished to a firm surface.The foundation shall be moist at the time of r <br /> placing the concrete. r <br /> t <br /> 620.3.2 Placing Concrete_If forms are required, they shall be set to line and grade <br /> and secured in place before the concrete is placed. 0 <br /> The concrete shall be deposited to the proper depth,consolidated by spading or by , <br /> vibration and struck off at the required elevation and crown.The required corrugations <br /> shall be formed with tools and equipment appropriate for the purpose, in accordance <br /> with the plan details. i I <br /> When the median is constructed adjacent to concrete pavement, tie bars shall be s 1 <br /> • placed as prescribed under the pertinent construction requirements for longitt Edinal and '•'i <br /> transverse joints in Subsections 415.5.7 and 415.5.8. E <br /> The surface of the median shall have a broom finish unless otherwise provided. <br /> The broom shall be drawn transversely across the full width of the median su-face with .1 <br /> adjacent strokes slightly overlapping.The brooming operation shall be so executed that ; t <br /> the corrugations produced in the surface shall be uniform in appearance and not more t <br /> than 3 mm in depth. Brooming shall be completed before the concrete is in st ch condi- 1 <br /> tion that the surface will be torn or unduly roughened by the operation. The surface <br /> thus finished shall be free from rough or porous areas, irregularities and de pressions f <br /> resulting from improper handling of the broom-Brooms shall be of the qualit size and <br /> construction and be so operated as to produce a surface finish meeting the approval of <br /> the engineer_ f <br /> The newly placed concrete shall be cured by the Wet Fabric Method, the Impervi- ;I <br /> ous Coating Method or the Paper Method, conforming to the requirements s°t forth in �•; <br /> Subsection-415.5.10. +.: <br /> I <br /> The provisions of Subsection 415.5.13 shall apply to concrete median constructed 1 <br /> during cold weather. 's <br /> Protection of concrete median shall conform to the pertinent requirements speci- <br /> fied for protection of concrete pavement in Subsection 415.5.14. I <br /> All excavation and surplus materials shall be removed and disposed of by the con- <br /> ` tractor in the manner provided for in Subsection 205.3.11. <br /> 620.4 Method of Measurement- Concrete median will be measured by area in l <br /> square meters in place,including nose section, completed and accepted in a:cordance a` <br /> with the requirements of the plans and contract. i <br /> 620.5 Basis of Payment.
