FROM : PHONE NO. : 608 873 1889 Feb. 21 2000 02:00PM P1
Memorandum Montgomery Associates:Resource Solutions,tic
2378 Rlnden Rd
Cottage Grove,WI 53527
808 8731965
fax 608 8731889
rimont©tis.corn
To: Dennis Richardson, R. G. Huston Company, Inc.
From: Rob Montgomery
Date: February 21, 2000
Re: Stormwater management issues, mineral extraction site at Highway N and 12/18
This memo describes the activities that will need to be accomplished to revise the stormwater
management and erosion control plan for your mineral extraction site at the northwest corner of Highway
N and 12/18. t developed this list based on our discussions, our on-site meeting with Curt Hulterstrum of
NNTB on Jan. 7, and our subsequent meeting at DOT District 1 headquarters on Jan. 19, 2000.
The calculations that were provided by HNTB at the meeting at District 1 headquarters indicates that your
mineral extraction site receives more storm water discharge than it did prior to development of the 12/18
highway. We will need to take this increased drainage into account in revising the storm water
management plan, and also in designing additional site measures to control erosion. However, the first
issue is to reach agreement with DOT on the extent of the drainage problem, and to develop a
coordinated approach to the storm water management plan that integrates storm water management for
the Highway N and 12/18 intersection with the mineral extraction site. The sequence of activities will be
as follows:
1. Discussion and agreement with DOT and their consultant, HNTB, on the extent of the drainage
problem. As we discussed,we may also be able to arrive at a cost-share procedure.
2. Conduct of an on-site survey, and development of a revised erosion control and storm water
management plan
3. Submittal of the revised plan to Dane County Land Conservation for review and approval
4. Construction of additional erosion control practices on a priority basis, and planning for
construction of enlarged storm water detention basins.
Please contact me at 873-1965 with any questions
