PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT
City-County Building ZONING DIVISION
210 Martin Luther King JR Blvd
Madison, WI 53709
Dear Mr. Gregorius,
This is a follow-up letter to you and the Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
regarding my hearing last night on petition 7195. I think it is important for me to clarify
and refute a number of the comments made by Brenda Gottschalk in opposition to this
petition.
It was implied that I was taking control of the Town of Medina to do as I like including
changing Town policies to my way. This is far from true. Upon taking over as Chairman
last year I found that the Town of Medina had minimal policies and ordinances in place.
This past year I have moved to install some of these policies and am hoping to continue
this process in the future. Key among these are revisions to the Town Land Use Plan
which I feel should be discussed as well as the establishment of the most basic of Town
Ordinances which have never been put in place. I have enclosed a copy of an article from
our local paper from earlier this month. You will find highlighted that I requested that the
Planning Commission be reinstated and consist of five members with not more than two
being Town Board members. I feel strongly that any changes to the Land Use Plan should
have extensive input from our citizens. To demonstrate this further you will see that I also
recommended a referendum to approve these changes. This is the most direct way I know
of to assure that the residents of the Town of Medina have a say in these changes. It is
also my opinion that the Planning Commission should be charged with recommending to
Town Board what Town Ordinances should be established which relate to Land Use,
these I would not expect to be put on a referendum.
