5-2-98
Members of Dane County Board
In regards to petition 7195, the applicant, Ron Jacobson,
and his girlfriend, Leola , want to rezone 1 . 5 acres from A-1
Exclusive Ag to C-1 Commercial . The proposed use is for new
appraisal service offices and a greenhouse business .
Living right next door to Ron and Leola, and knowing that
we could have a business right in our rural setting made David
and I very upset and concerned. Therefore, we spoke with some of
the neighbors in the area . They felt the same way as David and
I . We don ' t want the basic character of the area changed !
The petition with 19 signatures is enclosed. On April 28 ,
David and I went in opposition before the Dane County Zoning
and Natural Resources Committee regarding petition 7195 . After
hearing both for and opposed, the Committee chose to abstain.
A neighbor informed us that Ron and Leola are sending out
letters asking residents of Medina to send a note to James
Gregorius , Zoning Administrator, stating their feelings about
the rezoning. Ron also stated that there is a small space
available next to the pharmacy, which is no bigger than the
office he has now, so why wouldn ' t it be sufficient? Whats
wrong with commuting to Madison? People commute to Madison every-
day for their job. Why do we need a rural appraisal service anyway?
A lot of people are afraid to come forward and speak their
opposition because of the power the Board carries . They feel
this may come back to haunt them in the future if they should
ever have to go before the Town Board for anything.
Louis Klecker, one of the Medina Town Supervisors, is
going from house to house persuading neighbors to except the
rezoning. One of the neighbors , Mark Albrecht, said to Louis ,
"then if I want to start a gun shop, and rezone to C-1 , that won ' t
be a problem being passed by the Town Board?" All Louis had to
say to Mark was , "this is going through no matter what ! " Is Louis
siding with Ron because his daughter has a vested interest in
selling out of Ron and Leola ' s greenhouse, which she stated to
me personally? Or maybe there ' s favoritism with both Ron and
Louis being on the Town Board . If Ron and Leola rezone, what ' s
to stop everyone else from rezoning? Then aren ' t we looking at
a lot of costly lawsuits if others are denied rezoning?
Enclosed is a letter from a lifetime long Medina resident
who wanted to rezone to C-1 , but was denied .
Do we really need another greenhouse in the area? Ron, himself ,
mentioned several in the area at the meeting Tuesday night?
The rural roads here are way too narrow, plus there is no center
mark dividing the lanes . To make matters worse, we have a school
bus that picks up our daughter at 8 : 00 a .m. ; at the same time most
greenhouses open for operation.
David and I , along with many concerned rural Medina residents
ask that you please keep our area rural and commercial free !
Thank You,
7
r
David and Brenda Gottse_ alk
