Additional Descriptions for Site Plan of 1/9/98
Roxbury Valley Trap Club, Inc.
Here is some additional information on the structures and layout shown on the zoning
sketch.
The "trap house" (Parcel C) conforms to the dimensions specified by the Amateur
Trapshooting Association(ATA). It is approximately an 8'x 8' bunker with about 2'
above ground and the opening for targets faces northeast. The five shooting lanes are in
an arc 16 yards from the trap with yardage lines extending back to 25 yards. The small
"shed" behind station#3 is where the puller operates the trap and marks down the
shooters' scores. Since it is a club tradition to shoot on Sundays through the entire
winter, this shed is a token effort at sheltering the puller. The storage shed is
approximately 8' x 14' with an overhang to move things under when it rains. We store
maintenance equipment (mowers and blowers) and targets in this shed. The barbecue pit
(Parcel B) is about 4' x 8' and is used approximately four times a year for our fundraising
"Chicken Shoots& Barbecues" (no, we don't shoot the chickens).
The property is almost completely in grass. There is a line of trees that follows the solid
diagonal line of Parcel B running from the northwest to southeast on the sketch. The
trees start about where the LP tank is shown and run down that diagonal to its southeast
edge. While there are no other woods on the property itself, we have an uninterrupted
line of woods on our west boundary. This property is owned now by the DNR and
contains at least five historic mound sites. There is a partial line of woods along our
north border interrupted by farm fields. Farm fields are also to the east and south of our
site. The nearest dwelling on CTH Y is approximately 0.2 mi. to the southwest of our
clubhouse.
While most trapshooting setups are located on flat land, our trap operation is atypical in
that it sits in a bowl. That is, the trap itself is in a low spot with higher ground making ,. -
bo, e : ..
roughly a 270-degree circle around the trap at the-seeirrates-drawnFin on the zoning
sketch. The 90-degree"opening" runs east from the aforementioned diagonal tree line
about where"93.86' west" is shown. The tree line delineates a natural"bench" on which
the parking area and clubhouse sit. The vertical height from the trap house to the top of
the bowl is about 25', which makes shooting more challenging (a figure/ground problem)
but also more contained.
Other information on the club's history and its current operation will be available when
the commission considers our application for a conditional use permit.
This document has bed epared by:
Allen M.
