8'-/- 97
i
I C rii)
ti Alk 4 1997 Joseph & Karen Kaltenberg
 4989 County Road TT
D. PLANNING & DEVELO jY Cottage Grove, WI 53527
Dane Coun • ZONDDIVISION
Natural Resources Committee °-°—
Dear Committee; '/ ,
i
We would like to clarify some concerns about our Petition # 6950,
in which we request to rezone approximately 8 acres from A-i Ex
Ag to R-i residential, east of Creek Haven Road, sec. 34.
This proposal is in a residential area, on a residential street,
in a development of about 40 homes covering close to 80 acres.
The lots we are planning would be small - about 1 acre each - on
the edge of this large cluster of rural homes. The Town of Sun
Prairie has given us unanimous approval.
~There is a concern over visibility when exiting Creek Haven Road
onto Hwy. TT. We agree this can be a dangerous corner,
especially during heavy traffic times. That is why we have an
agreement with the Town of Sun Prairie to cut down the bank along
Hwy. TT. We are sure everyone will agree that a manicured lawn
is safer than a 6 foot high bank with 7 foot tall corn growing on
it.
The way that Creek Haven Road is laid out has created a curved
and pointed field that is difficult to work with our large
equipment. To harvest either corn or hay, we use a tractor,
chopper, and forage box. When hooked together, these three
pieces of machinery stretch out 63 feet long. A semi truck is
about 65 feet long. Can you picture trying to drive a semi truck
and trailer around that curved field to harvest a crop? Some of
our other machinery includes a digger that is 25 feet wide and
about 20 feet long, and a sprayer that is 45 feet wide. It is
impossible to spray into points and curves without having to
overlap some areas. Not only is this a very expensive waste of
chemical, it is also not very good for the soil.
As for the concern of how far the lots would be from our barns;
the lots are 225 feet deep. Creek Haven Road is 475 feet
from the closest shed. This leaves 02S0 feet between them
for a buffer. We also have an agreement with the Town of Sun
Prairie to put up a fence and plant a row of trees near the lot
line to further separate the lots from our farm buildings.
Our long range plans include selling the dairy herd in
approximately five years. This would eliminate the need for a
pasture. We will however, continue to raise beef in confined
sheds. This means there will not be any animals within c5
feet of the back of the lots.
