Only by keeping <br /> the program small, will it be effective. Third, the purpose of the program is to hold students <br /> accountable for their actions and behaviors. Special features have been developed into the program <br /> to do this. (e.g. retaining students after school or over night if needed) Four, drug and alcohol <br /> Rbuse issues will be dealt with assertively. This is dealt with on an individual ease basis and can <br /> include: random drug screening, counseling,, in-patient treatment_ Five, counseling and group <br /> therapy will be an integral part of the program . This is an educational placement for students, but <br /> their needs cannot be met with a strictly academie piugtatn. Therefore, weekly groups and <br /> activities will be facilitated by the social worker, psychologist, and art therapist. Six, the goal of the <br /> program is to empower students to become successful in school (and other areas). To do this, <br /> students are involved in making choices about the curricula they want to study. The curricula will <br /> be based on each individuals' interests levels. as well as group decisions, Seven, a group <br /> environment is an important focus of the program, Students will learn how to function and work in <br /> a group. (how to work with different people, how to respect differences in people, how to make <br /> decisions and cooperate in a group, how to build trust, and how to resolve conflicts that arise in a <br /> group) <br /> This program provides success in a separate environment, where the students in A.T.L.A.S. <br /> will not be distracted by, nor distract, the regular education students. <br /> The program was designed and expected to serve 4 to 6 students. The program was/is <br /> planned to serve those s udents during the normal school day (S:OO a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)during the <br /> course of the normal, 180 day school.year. <br />
