Madison Area Radio Control Society MARCS -AMA Charter club #665 Club Website www.mareswi.org AMA Website Academy of Model Aeronautics We are a group of radio control modelers. We have been an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Charter Club (#665) for over 30 years. Our current membership is 70 people and represents a broad range of modeling interests including; electric models, sailplanes, giant scale models, scale models, helicopters and multirotors. Our national organization, AMA, has a safety code that governs what we do. Our club also has additional operational and safety rules of our own specific to the flying site. The AMA also provides liability insurance for the flying site land owner, the chartered club and individual members. In the past we have held three family friendly public events each year; an electric fun fly (electrics only), scale rally (every model flying must be a model of a full scale aircraft), and a warbird event with only models of military aircraft from WWI to the present. We also hold three to six evening learn to fly events a year. These events provide people the opportunity to try flying an rc (radio control) plane with an instructor without the expense of actually purchasing their own models. This way, they can decide if the hobby is really for them before making an investment. We also provide educational programs at schools and for scouting troops. Our previous field was leased from the City and located behind the Dane County Landfill on Highway 12. The County needed to expand the landfill, so our field as well as the cricket field east of us were both sold to the County for this expansion. The Hustons have been kind enough to let us develop a flying field in a pasture on their property about 1/3 of a mile north of Uphoff Road. We now need to get this property rezoned from Agricultural to Recreational. We will only be flying over the Huston property to the North of our flying field. We were flying at this location the past two weeks, but were instructed that we need to stop flying gas and glow (noisy) planes
