•
Mr. Perkins wants our property for his vegetable farm. He moved here approximately
two years ago. If he wanted a larger place, he should have bought a different farm. I do not feel
it is our responsibility to make him happy. Mr. Perkins also put in an offer to purchase with
conditions that it has a buildable site and perc test. (See attached) One thing Mr. Perkins said
on June 10 was he did offer to purchase our land and did not know why we wouldn't sell to him.
He forgot to mention that on June 7, when I was out walking, he called his dog(I think German
Shepard) and gave it a command in a foreign language. It ran at me barking. Only when I told
him if it bit me I would have to sue did he call it back. One of his sons was sitting there with his
mouth wide open.
Who is Ed Jepsen? Neither my husband nor myself have ever met or spoken with the
man, however, he seems to feel he has some claim to our property. Following is a quote from
a letter he wrote which is in our file:
"1 have an interest in this situation because I am establishing an apple orchard at the
farm. If the farm flourishes the small number of tillable acres (about seven acres)may limit the
farm's capacity to meet the potential market."
Doesn't it seem a little strange to anyone that a man would start an apple orchard on Mr.
Perkins' farm when he knows he doesn't have enough acres and then assume, without even
speaking to us, that he can have our land? We have lived next to Mr. Perkins since may.
Neither Mr. Perkins or Mr. Jepsen have ever contacted us in that time. They have just taken it
upon themselves to start petitions and nasty rumors.
Another issue seems to be the reason for selling seven acres instead of two. Mr.
Kessenich, a town board member, told Deb and Steve Pierick on the phone that if they bought
two acres we would get an unanimous vote. When asked why, Mr. Kessenich told them the
neighboring farmer(Mr. Perkins) wants clear access into the 30 acre field, that we (the
Brunners) own and are not selling. We rent to a dairy farmer, Keith O'Connell, and will
continue to do so. If we decide to sell, Keith has told us he would be interested in buying the
remainder of this land. Our reason for selling seven acres is my sister-in-law and her husband
have two teenage boys. They hunt and fish and need room to explore. The seven acres gives
them the access to get to the Blue Mounds Creek without bothering anyone else. Only 2.5 of the
seven is able to be worked. With the deed restriction they are willing to put on this parcel, it
will continue to be worked.
I have cried many many tears over this but we did not move here for the friendship of our
neighbors. This was my husbands dream to come back and live where he had so many fond
memories of growing up with his brothers and sisters. If Gordy's sister would decide to back out
on this purchase we will not blame them. I will miss not seeing a smiling face for the next forty
years but we will continue with this fight.
We have not called you to try to persuade you to vote our way. We feel that would not
be ethical. We believe you should vote on the facts and the decisions of the Vermont Town
Board.
•
