1-tti > 'y'r' 06:U4 FR JJR NHD I SUN 608 251 6147 TO 8395498 P.03/06
Mr. Clark Amundsen
25 January, 1996
Page 2
Rapid Assessment Methodology. It appears that a significant amount of water inflow is
overland flow from adjacent farm fields and stormwater flow from area businesses (i.e., the
Cenex Cooperative) and residential and commercial areas on the southern edge of the Village.
The owners have suggested several potential enhancement alternatives, including:
• construction of stormwater detention basins at the two locations where offsite
stormwater enters the wetland;
• installation of ditch plugs or water control structures at strategic locations in site
ditches to create a series of shallow marshes;
• installation of several shallow scrapes to increase the diversity of moisture regimes
and remove undesirable vegetation;
• installation of native plantings in the detention basins, shallow marshes, and
scrapes;
• herbicide treatment of shrub carr and wet meadow areas dominated by undesirable
vegetation and seeding of these areas with native wet meadow vegetation.
The overall goal of these activities is to increase the quality of the wetland by treating water
entering the wetland and introducing native plant species. The beneficial effects of these
activities will include:
1. overall surface and ground water quality benefits to the wetland itself and the
Koshkonong Creek watershed.
2. increased wildlife habitat value by creating open water areas and introduction of
native plant species for food and cover.
' 3. an increase in the aesthetic qualities of the wetland complex, which is within site of
the Glacial-Drumlin Trail.
The owners have completed a similar project on the property to the north and adjacent to this
site. During our on-site meeting, we can view the progress at the property to the north.
I am hoping that we can meet at the site in the near future to discuss the necessary permits
and approvals. I can be reached at 608-251-1177 if you need any additional information or to
set up a meeting.
Sincerely,
JOHNSON JOHNSON & ROY/inc
Scott A.
