Tom Borchert 4146233431 P. 04
TO: Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
FROM: Stephen E. Hill
6468 York Hts. Rd.
Waterloo, Wi 53704
RE. Zoning petition 6868
This letter is to register my strong opposition to the above zoning petition in which Mark
Smithback is seeking to change the zoning of his property from A-1 EX to RH-4.
The rationale for my opposition is based on the following:
1. In the Town of York there are many wood lots that are set back off the road with
production farm land surrounding them. This zoning change would be setting a
precedent allowing everyone to build in this type of area. It will encourage urban
sprawl which will require the township to provide additional services and removes
more farmland from production. This may also adversely effect the local school
system.
2. This property is set back from the public road over a 1/4 mile and is surrounded
by production farm land. If this land is developed it will mean that the
neighboring farm land can no longer be sprayed with crop dusters. This could
restrict the type of crops and inhabit proper maintenance of the crops that are
planted on the surrounding farm land. Thus having an adverse affect on the
potential income of the neighboring farms.
I know that time changes things and in 20 years we may want to readdress this issue.
However, at the present time this is a rural area and I think we should do what ever we can
to preserve the area in its present state. While it would be nice to be able to do what we
want with the land we own, we must remember we are only stewards of the land and we need
to preserve the land for future generations.
I TRUST THE DANE COUNTY ZONING COMMITTEE WILL REJECT ZONING
PETITION #6868.
Thank Youl
Stephen Hill
