Description of Borrow Excavation Operation:
Hoffman Construction Company proposes to obtain the required fill material from the
south east facing slope of the existing hill on the property, starting at the Highway 12/18 right of
way, extending south to the existing houses on Hope Hollow Trail off CTH AB. The access road
will be located on Highway 12/18 as shown on the site drawings, and no material will be hauled
on Hope Hollow Trail or CTH AB.
The project on Highway 12/18 and IH 90 requires 220,000 of borrow excavation in the
1997 construction season and 200,000 cubic yards of borrow excavation in 1998.
Erosion Control:
Erosion control on the site shall follow the Wisconsin DNR Best Management Practices
and all Wisconsin DOT requirements. Erosion control shall be installed per the attached site
plan. The erosion contol plan will meet the requirements of Dane County ordinance 14.54, and
will be approved by the Dane County Land Conservation Committee prior to any work on the
site. These sheets detail the erosion control consisting of temporary and permanent seeding, silt
fence, settling basins, tracking pad, and ditch dikes.
During construction, interim erosion control devices such as silt fence, erosion bales,
erosion mat, and ditch checks will be utilized to control any erosion. The site will be monitored
daily and after any rainfall. The erosion control devices shall be supplemented or corrected if
any deficiencies are noted.
Construction sedimentation basins will be constructed as shown to control runoff. The
construction basins will consist of a settling basin capable of holding the volume required by the
Dane County Ordinance 14.54, and an overflow filter consisting of 6" minus rock faced with a 1"
washed stone filter. These erosion control devices are shown on the attached plans.
Topsoil dikes and silt fence will be constructed around the perimeter of borrow sites, and
sites will be seeded, fertilized and mulched as soon as possible. The topsoil stripping piles shall
be placed to direct any runoff to the settling basins.
Temporary slopes will have silt fence placed at the bottom to contain erosion and
siltation, and will be temporaily seeded as directed by the state project engineer. The exact
locations of temporary erosion control devices can be found in the site plan.
