DE rt CONSTRUCTION Itic.,
Redyclit g Service Project Smmarx
MRF Desian
The design and operation of the MRF will utilize proven technology to sort, process and
recycle mixed loads of C & D waste. The MRF will include:
• a scale and a small building to weigh and monitor trucks entering the MRF,
• an area where incoming C & D waste can be unloaded (i.e. a tipping floor),
• a building to house sorting, processing and maintenance equipment,
• designated areas to store processed materials for shipment to local recyclers and/or
direct sale to potential end-users.
• an area to park trucks and large equipment
Preliminary designs of the MRF and site plan are attached. We used a similar facility in
Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin as a model for these preliminary designs. We are working with a
professional consultant, the same individual who designed the Chippewa Falls facility, to
determine the final design of our MRF.
Acceptable Materials
DeConstruction Inc. will not accept waste containing or contaminated with hazardous
materials. Materials not classified as hazardous, but potentially polluting to ground-water will
be sorted from the C & D waste and taken to a lined-landfill for disposal. If clean, C & D
waste will be accepted for processing and charged on a per ton basis. We plan to accept
waste from the following sources.
Building Demolition: Mixed rubble, steel beams, concrete, brick, timber, fixtures and
fittings, floor and wall material,
Construction/Renovation: Corrugated cardboard, other packaging, wood, roofing, insulation,
duct work & pipes, floor and wall surfacing remnants,
Excavated Material: Sand, earth, stones, buried pipes, site clearance, gravel,
Roadwork Material: Primarily asphalt, concrete, (with/without reinforcing),
Industrial Waste: Any clean wood waste, or metal waste
Diversion of Materials
We will divert the following materials from C & D waste:
• corrugated cardboard, (baled and shipped to a local recycler)
• wood waste, (stockpiled until it can be processed in the spring into mulch, boiler fuel,
compost bulking agent, animal bedding, and raw material for a wood-plastic composite
scrap metal, (collected in a open-top semi trailer and shipped to a local scrap dealer)
• polystyrene foam and urethane foam, (baled and shipped to a local recycler)
• reusables, (sold directly or donated to a local non-profit building materials reuse center)
• potentially polluting materials (taken to a lined landfill for disposal)
All remaining waste will be processed into land reclamation and recycled-content road base
material.
