!r r <br /> ■ <br /> DeConstruction Inc, <br /> Demolition Contractor <br /> November 11, 1994 <br /> Dear Concerned Residents of Cottage Grove, <br /> On November 14, 1994,DeConstruction,Inc. withdrew its application for the conditional use <br /> permit to construct the proposed construction and demolition debris recycling center in Gaston <br /> Quarry. We sent a memorandum to the Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee <br /> and the Dane County Regional Planning Commission to remove the permit application from their <br /> consideration. <br /> The people of Cottage Grove have shown great determination and unity in addressing the recycling <br /> center proposal. Aside from your efforts,however,the ugly history of the quarry never gave the <br /> recycling proposal a chance. As a result,our persistence in trying to locate the recycling center in <br /> Gaston Quarry would only create misconception and great liability for DeConstruction, even if the <br /> recycling center was flawless in its operation. <br /> By withdrawing the permit application,DeConstruction, Inc. hopes to start a new relationship with <br /> the people of Cottage Grove. Areas of Cottage Grove with interstate access are still very centrally <br /> located to construction and demolition activity in Dane County. Therefore, (1)because many of <br /> you have voiced your support for the recycling concept, (2)because you are already familiar with <br /> the proposal,and(3)because you know Cottage Grove much better than DeConstruction, we ask <br /> for your suggestions. <br /> To start the recycling center by next spring(i.e. the beginning of the next construction season), it is <br /> imperative that DeConstruction finds a new location by the end of November. If the town of <br /> Cottage Grove has any locations that may be suitable for the recycling center,please call Rob <br /> Walther at 244-4332,as soon as possible. <br /> As for the quarry operation,the issue still remains. Because recycling is DeConstruction's main <br /> objective, if another location was found and accepted by the end of November, DeConstruction <br /> would consider not purchasing the quarry.
