I don ' t remember all of the conditions the Plan Commission
recommended , but I very much like several . Specifically :
fire prevention (having a well before any
fires and requiring safe fire pits)
limiting the total number of people who can
be there at one time
limiting how long a tent or trailer could be
there (although I think a ten-day
limit - which would allow someone to
retreat during their summer vacation
- more reasonable than three days)
requiring appropriate sanitary facilities
(whether port-a-pots or an approved
septic system)
As someone who strongly prefers government to stay out of my
business, I think a couple of the recommended conditions go
beyond the appropriate role of government. For example,
requiring a fence between this land and the DNR' s land seems
a bit extreme. If they perceive themselves to be in danger ,
let them put up a fence; if they don' t, let it be. Or , as
another example , having some kind of special requirements
about garbage disposal seems to me to duplicate ordinances
already in place. Surely our government has better things
to do than to require something that' s already required .
At the time, I didn' t feel very strongly about the condition
for a two-lane driveway (which would have to be built on my
land since they have easement) . During this week , however,
I 've looked again at my driveway and can ' t figure a way they
could build one without cutting down my trees. I would very
much dislike losing the shaded drive and ask you to consider
its necessity very carefully.
In closing , let me repeat my support for this conditional
use request. As the person surrounded by this parcel ,
I care very deeply about how it is used . I prefer a use
which will maintain the wooded nature of the land - which
this use will - and which allows me to have some input into
how that land is used - which this does.
Respectfully ,
Normajean Bunton
