585 Tipperary Road
Brooklyn , WI 53521
6 February 95
Town Board , Town of Oregon
Oregon, WI 53575
HAND DELIVERED
RE: Conditional Use Permit Application number 1224
I regret that my schedule does not permit me to be at
the meeting while you consider the Conditional Use Permit
request made by Ron Jeidy for the Reformed Congregation .
Thank you for taking my comments in this form. I found the
public hearing and discussion at the Town Plan Commission
meeting last Tuesday quite lively and informative.
Upon reflection, it seems to me that the recommendations
were an interesting mixture of sensible conditions which
address the legitimate concerns raised by neighbors and a
few conditions which have something of a "big brother"
flavor to them. Also upon reflection , my neighbors seem
to have a mix of reactions to this request which included
reasonable concerns which could be appropriately addressed
by placing conditions on this permit and a wish to kill
this use of the land altogether.
Let me discuss the second part first. I confess that
the reasons for killing the Retreat Center were never
clear to me. I did have an impression that some folks
have a strong desire not to have change come to this part
of the town. But change will inevitably come. Ron Jeidy
has moved out of state and will sell this land to someone,
sometime. At least THIS use allows us to place conditions
on the activities to take place there. If he sells it to
a person or family, then we will have absolutely nothing to
say about fires or the size of their home or the size of
their family or how many parties they have or how many cars
they drive ( not to mention where they park them) or whether
they ride dirt bikes at all hours or -- well , you get the
idea. Change will come . I prefer a land use which permits
us to have some say about that change to one which will not.
My house and land, which I bought from Ron Jeidy , are
surrounded by this parcel on three sides; so I have some
fairly strong feelings about what happens to it and on it.
One of the things I treasure most about the land are the
many large trees currently growing there. The proposed use
will maintain the wooded nature of the parcel . In addition ,
having part-time neighbors appeals to me.
