Box 2985
A Madison,Wisconsin 53701-2985
_ 608 266 4635
April 11, 1995 % D
Mr. Lyman L. Anderson, Chairman
Dane County Zoning and Natural { 19 APR 111995
Resources Committee
City-County Building I;U.IV r
Madison, Wi 53710 okiiE C
Dear Chairman Anderson:
This letter is being transmitted to express some of our concerns regarding the
rezoning of the Lester Williams Estate property at 2911 Landmark Place from RH-
1 Rural Homes to C-2 Commercial District(Petition#6242). Although currently
located within the Town of Madison, the Lester Williams Estate property abuts
several single-family residential lots located on Nottingham Way within the City of
Madison. The proposed development may adversely affect the single-family
dwellings, depending on the types of uses located on the property and the sizes and
locations of the buildings and other improvements.
In his February 27, 1995 letter to Dane County and the Town of Madison, Mr.
Gary A.Dahl states reasons for the rezoning and the proposal to locate Epicentre
Technologies Corporation on the Lester Williams Estate property. He describes
Epicentre Technologies Corporation as
"...a privately held Wisconsin corporation engaged in the research and
development, manufacture and sale of biotech reagents, kits and other tools
for basic research and analysis in biology, medicine and agriculture"...and
the "company's customers are primarily research scientists in university,
governmental and industrial laboratories worldwide."
He mentions that Epicentre currently has 30 employees in two separate building
locations, both of which are at near capacity, and that the company is expected to
employ 45-50 people within about two years. He further mentions that Epicentre
desires to purchase the Lester Williams Estate property because of anticipated
future growth and to centralize all company operations in one location. He also
states that Epicentre intends
"...to construct one or more one-or two-story building(s) with up to a total
of approximately 20,000 square feet of space within 12-18 months."and
over the long term, the property will be gradually developed"...to provide a
campus-like atmosphere with separate buildings of similar size and style to
the first."
