4.6.6.Placement will require cabling of installed logs and rootwads to snags, boulders and
deadman anchors. Cables must be installed on bare wood surfaces, double wrapped and
pulled tight as shown in the plans.
4.7. To facilitate efficient movement of logs, the Contractor shall provide a track excavator with a
hydraulic thumb attachment.
4.8. Large wood will be placed and ballasted according the Drawings and the direction of the
Engineer. Ballast will consist of burial and embedment into soil, backfill with soil, boulder
placement, and cabling to other logs, buried Snags and buried Deadman anchors.
S. PLANTING
5.1. Planting of native grass, forb and shrub species will take place above the predetermined lower
limit for vegetation, in areas designated in the plans. A mixture of species with varying moisture
tolerances is recommended to ensure survival.
5.2. The species lists contain plants native to the project area and that thrive in riparian
environments. These lists may change based on availability of plant materials. Additional
native species may be added, but must be approved by the project owner.
5.3. Native grasses and forbs will be planted from seeds hand or mechanically sown and
incorporated at a density of 30-50 pounds per acre. The native grass community is designed for
immediate erosion control in all excavated areas, and is considered temporary until natural
succession occurs.
5.4. Native floodplain trees and shrubs in the immediate riparian zone will be planted as potted
stock, and will be installed using a clumped planting plan based on numbers calculated from an
8 ft grid pattern.
5.5. Upland trees and shrubs will be installed following random placement based on a clumped plan
calculated from a 25 ft grid density.
6. MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
6.1. Excavation -Work for items 'Excavation, reused on site' and 'Excavation, removed from site'
shall include, but is not necessarily limited to surveying, all operations in connection with wet
and dry soil grading, pilot channel excavation, trenching, temporary crossings, filling of
dewatering channels, hauling and disposal of cut, haul road construction and maintenance,
temporary wetland mat placement, site access and staging, and common fill placement as
shown within the Plans. This item includes supplying all materials, equipment, labor and
incidentals to complete this work. Excavation will not be measured. Payment for these items
will be based on the approximate quantities for excavation to the lines and grades shown on
the Plans. If the engineer directs excavation to stop above the lines and grades shown in the
plans, dimensions will be surveyed and payment may be modified based on an adjusted
quantity.
6.2. Log Placement-Work for this item shall include, but is not necessarily limited to all operations
in connection with log installation as shown within the Plans and as directed by Resident
Project Representative. Measurement and payment per log.
