The northern 27 acres of this parcel had
previously been tested for clay by Dane County during 1989, and CUP 717 for the purpose of
mineral extraction was granted at that time. No purchase agreement was ever reached with the
owner and the clay extraction project was never begun. At present, Dane County Public
Works has an option to purchase this 77-acre parcel contingent upon Town and County zoning
approval.
Preliminary soil testing was conducted during December 1993 for the previously untested 50
acres. Results of the soil testing indicate that clay soils meeting DNR specifications exist over
most of this parcel. Clay soil thicknesses ranging from 2 to 8 feet were encountered at test
pits making this a good source for clay needed for clay liners and caps at the Dane County
Landfill.
ENGINEERING * SOLID WASTE * LAKES MANAGEMENT
