On March 23 the Cottage Grove Planning
Commission delayed making a decision for a 1-month period so that 2 members of the Planning
Commission could meet with Dane County Public Works staff to discuss the project. Two meetings
were held. The Town's concerns and the County's proposals for dealing with these concerns are
summarized in the attached memo dated April 21, 1994.
Dane County Public Works staff then met with the full Town of Cottage Grove Planning
Commission at a public hearing on April 27. The April 21 Memo was discussed as well as
conditions that were placed on CUP 717 which in 1989 granted the County permission to extract
clay from the northern 27 acres of this parcel.
The Planning Commission then moved to recommend approval of CUP 1132 for only the northern
portion of the site that was previously approved by CUP 717 with the following restrictions and
conditions:
1. The conditions contained in the April 21 Memo (attached).
2. The Conditions for Removal of Clay from CUP 717 with the exception of Item #13 and the
hours of truck hauling in Item #5 were changed to 8 am. to 4 pm (attached).
3. That the County pursue the option of getting additional clay from the DOT during construction
of the USH 12/18 and CTH N scheduled for 1998.
On May 2, the Cottage Grove Town Board choose to ignore the Planning Commission's
recommendation and went on record as opposed to the entire project.
ENGINEERING * SOLID WASTE * LAKES MANAGEMENT
