•
agricultural benefits from the land. Does the Board wish to preserve all agricultural land,or just
some?
10. Zoning and Land Use(planning report). It would seem that this rezoning is being presented
as a chill lenge to the Board's policy of agriculture preservation. In all aspects, the Schlitzs'land is
a mini-farm. The land consists of ten acres, two white barns, and a green pole barn. The land can
remain agricultural and still be used for raising animals. The Board cannot permit a rezoning to
occur simply because they are impressed by the owner's plans. They should consider the people
who must live with the business.
11. Our Property Being an Asset to the Schlitz's. At the Plan Committee meeting,John Schlitz
was tot ling the board how valuable our land was to him:that if we wanted to sell, they would
purchase it from us. That way"we would be protected". On 6/26/94 we informed Mr. Schlitz that
he could purchase the property immediately for the fair market value. He was told we wanted to
sell before the kennel was installed. He did not appear interested in the offer. He showed no
enthusiasm, and had no comment. It would appear Mr. Schlitz is misrepresenting his true attitude
towards our property, and attempting to instill in us a false sense of security.
12. Horses Same as Dogs? At the Plan Committee meeting the Board members concluded that
there is no difference between the boarding of horses and the boarding of dogs. If this is true, then
it can be reasoned rezoning is not necessary. Horses are legal farm animals, and if there is no
difference between the needs of horses and those of dogs, then dogs should be considered farm
animals as well. Why,then,is this on the agenda? We would much prefer forty horses over forty
dogs.
We bear no malice against the Schlitz family. We invite all involved to come and walk our
property, and to talk to us. If the Board members can honestly say that they would buy this house
(at the fair market value of 200,000)and live less than 300 feet away from over forty barking
dogs, then so be it. If the Board members cannot, then how can they expect anyone else to?
We maintain an open door policy on drop-in guests, and we ask you all to take advantage of it.
Stop in at any time between now and July 12th and see first hand our situation. We would
appreciate your presence and exchange of thoughts.
Sincerely,
r) ,
Roger and LuAnn Coffey.
