Thomas E. Wohlleber
July 22, 1992
Page 2
Attempts were made to conduct the soil investigations using hand augering,
however, the large fragment content of the soil prevented boring advancement
beyond shallow depths.
The property being considered for purchase by the school district is a 40 acre
agricultural field located in the Town of Middleton. Specific location of the
parcel is the southeast 1/4 of the northeast 1/4 of Section 6, Township 7
North, Range 8 East. Site topography consists of upland areas on the north
and south portions of the property with a drainageway transversing on an
east-west axis through the center of the site. Slopes of between 8 and 12%
occur between the uplands and the drainageway. Ground elevations range from a
low of approximately 1070 feet above mean sea level (msl ) along the eastern
property boundary near the northeast property corner to 1140 feet msl near the
northwest and southeast property corners. The parcel is situated on a
regional watershed divide, however, surface drainage from the property is to
the east into the Rock-Fox River Basin. The parcel sets upon an end moraine
within approximately four miles of unglaciated terrain.
Several soil series have been mapped on the property. In general , Kidder loam
and Dodge silt loam are shown to occupy the higher elevations. Both of these
soils are well drained. St. Charles and Troxel silt loams are shown to occupy
the lower elevations. These soil series are described as being moderately
well drained. Moderately well drained soils typically have a horizon which
has a lower hydraulic conductivity than those above. This soil property in
conjunction with a low landscape position can lead to seasonal saturated
conditions in the subsoil . Observation of specific site soil conditions
confirmed the existence of soil physical properties and drainage classes
identified in the soil survey. The attached site plan shows the estimated
boundary between the well drained and moderately well drained soils. Detailed
soil profile descriptions are also attached.
arptrdlr.wp
4153.00
