CLIFTON E.R. LAWSON
CONSULTING ENGINEER
860 Miller Drive
OREGON, WI 53575
Soils and Foundation Engineering Construction Materials Engineering
December 18, 1993 Telephone: (608) 835-7567
Mr. Marvin Swedal
Big Top Family Restaurant
4910 C.T.H. "V"
De Forest, WI 53532
Re: Level I Report, Follow-up
Best Western Motel
Dear Mr. Swedal :
On December 14, 1993, two test borings were done at the location of the former
buried fuel tank at this site. See the attached revised Figure No. 1 for the
location.
The boring crew evidently hit the old tank foundation with the first attempt
and moved over four feet to continue the boring as Number 1A.
I have used by h-nu meter to test for volatile organics in the head space over
the soil samples in the sealed jars. The tests are basically negative. A few
minor low level slight readings were noted. This situation is common for soil
that is fill and the general evaluation is that the tanks evidently did not
leak. The boring crew also notes that they did not smell any gasoline or other
odors as they did their work. This also is a good sign.
I recommend no further soil exploration in regard to that former tank and offer
my opinion that this site is environmentally clean.
I trust that this now completes the work of Level I and II investigations.
You will be receiving the typed boring log from the drillers in a few days.
Respectfully,
v"l vio-p1/4---
Clifton E. R. Lawson, P.E
Attachment: Figure No. 1, revised.
