9 4/ a
September 14, 1993
To The Dane County Zoning Committee
Lyman Anderson, Chair
„`;41
RE: Conditional Use Permit #1100
By: Wingra Stone Company
Proposed use: Mineral extraction for highway project
Location: North of 6338 and 6340 Nesbit Road
Sec 12, Town of Verona
39.9 Acres
The neighbors of the
g property proposed for mineral extraction,
oppose Conditional Use Permit 11100 request by Wingra Stone Company
Y '
for approximately 39.9 acres located in the SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4
of Section 12, Town of Verona.
The property described above is contiguous to the residential.
community known as Hillside Heights in the Town of Verona. A
petition stating the opposition of residents of that community has
been circulated and is available to this Committee confirming such
opposition.
The residential community has been established since the late
1940's and early 1950's. Wingra Stone's quarry on the westerly side
of Hwy PD began in 1959.
At that time, their blasting operation damaged two homes in the
community of Hillside Heights, one being mine which is half way
down the hill on the easterly side of the lime ridge, the other on
top of the lime ridge from which Wingra is harvesting lime rock.
Damages were awarded by legal suit in Dane County Court to the
plaintiffs Poole & Burri by the defendants, Wingra Stone and their
insurers.
It is ay opinion the law suit, plaintiffs prevailing, established
the FACT that Wingra's operation does affect the physical
properties of the homes built in the community of Hillside Heights.
Their blasting operation has continued to disturb the environment
of our little community consistently. Air concussion, ground
vibrations, and air pollution are regular adverse environmental
conditions as a result of their quarrying.
Ever since Wingra Stone expanded their quarry west of Hwy PD, and
invaded this community, we have suffered broken thermopane window
seals, disturbed wells, separated mortar in foundations, and
cracked plaster among other physical effects.
